Tour Plan

DAY 1; Start of the Trek

Today marks the beginning of our seven-day trek through the Rwenzori Mountains using the Central Circuit. We shall start with a trek briefing and organizing our trekking equipment. The Central circuit is a challenging but rewarding route that takes us through the lush rainforest and fast running rivers. The views from the top have been breathtaking, and the experience of trekking through the mountain range has been incredible. We have seen a variety of wildlife, including black and white colobus monkeys and the Rwenzori Turaco, a colorful bird that is native to the region. As we prepare for the next six days of our journey, we are excited to explore the other trails and experience the beauty of the Rwenzori Mountains. We shall spend the night at Nyabitaba hut.

DAY 2; Hike

On day 2 of the 7-day Rwenzori hike, we will embark on the second day of the trek via the central circuit. This will be an exciting day as we will be able to explore the beautiful landscapes of the Rwenzori Mountains, with its unique vegetation and wildlife. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. We will also have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

It will be a great day of exploration and adventure, and an experience that will stay with us for a lifetime. We shall camp at John Matte hut.

DAY 3; Hike

On day 3 of the 7 day Rwenzori hike, we will be trekking through the swampy area in a valley which is home to the giant lobelias after crossing River Bujuku. This area used to be the hardest part of the Rwenzori since the area is so boggy however of current there is a board walk to make the trek easier for trekkers. taking in the sights and sounds of the natural environment. We will be surrounded by the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, with their snow-capped peaks towering above us. After the board hike, you will walk through the remaining small boggy area up to Bujuku hut. Here you will have a clear view of Lake Bujuku, Mt Speke, Mount Baker and Mt Stanley. We will be able to take in the beauty of the area, and marvel at the flora and fauna that calls this place home.

DAY 4; Hike

On day 4 of the 7-day Rwenzori trek, we will climb across the upper Bigo bog, which will give way to the steep slopes west of Lake Bujuku, as well as through the enchanted woodland and Groundsel valley. The route is then separated into two sections. The left track leads to Scott-Elliot pass before descending to Kitandara Lakes, while the right trail leads to the Elena Hut before climbing Mt Stanley on a hard trail above big rock. Elena cabin is located on the rocky slopes of Mount Stanley, and the location is quite chilly. You are now at the highest point of the Rwenzori, with a straight view of Mount Baker and Mount Speke. Because of the fog, it might be difficult to see these two mountains at times.

Day 5; Hike to the Magherita peak

This 5th day of the 7-day Rwenzori trek will need you to rise as early as 2 a.m. Eat breakfast at Elena Hut, dress warmly, put on your harness, warm hand gloves, and headsock, have your headlamps and helmets ready, and make sure you have sunglasses in your day bag. Hike via the Stanley plateau to the top of Mount Stanley, Magherita peak. Ropes will be used to aid movement in steep rocky regions. While on the ice, the guide will show you how to utilize the equipment. You will need to use you, crampons, and an ice axe for the glacier sections. Acclimatized to fog, altitude sickness, and chilly weather, clamber up to the top of Margherita, the Rwenzori Alps' highest peak.

The descent from Margherita Peak to Elena Hut will take around 2 - 3 hours. After lunch at Elena Hut, descend to the Scott-Elliot pass (4372m asl.), where you can see Bujuku Lake and Mount Speke. After that, the route descends past the Kitandara Lakes through an alpine zone of limited flora and hard stones.

Day 6; Descent

Follow the trail from Kitandara that ascends steeply up the headwall, stretching out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing up the mountain's south flank to Fresh Field Pass 4282m asl. From here, you can see the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. Take the lengthy high alpine mossy trail from the pass. After that, begin the descent over difficult rocky routes and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the Duke of Abruzzi's famous expedition in 1906, followed by an overnight in Guy yeoman camp.

Day 7; Descent

You will descend through the bamboo trees from Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba. The descent can be slippery and muddy with little to hang on to, necessitating cautious balance over sheer muck or steep rock. After around 5 hours of walking, you will arrive at Nyabitaba hut, where you will eat lunch. You will then descend for another three hours to Nyakalengija and complete your trek by the evening to Mihunga gate to end your 7 days Rwenzori Margherita peak summit trip.

Transfer back to Kampala

Today marks the end of our 7-day Rwenzori trek. After a long and arduous journey, we have finally reached the end of our hike. We have seen some of the most beautiful and breathtaking sights in the Rwenzori Mountains and have experienced the unique culture of the local people. We have made memories that will last a lifetime. Now, as we make our way back to Kampala, we look forward to the comforts of home and the memories of our journey that will stay with us forever.
