Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Day 3 of the Rwanda 6-Day Safari Tour is an unforgettable experience of Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari is a fantastic wildlife experience that allows guests to explore Rwanda's beautiful rainforests and see endangered mountain gorillas in their native environment. A gorilla permit goes for $1500 each person. This once-in-a-lifetime adventure takes tourists into the breathtaking Virunga Mountains, where they can trek and get up close and personal with these gentle giants while learning about their habits and conservation efforts to conserve them. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of the most magnificent creatures on the planet.

Early morning, you will set off for your gorilla trekking experience. You will be briefed by the park rangers on the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. Tracking can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on the gorilla family you are tracking. You will spend one hour with the gorillas once you have found them. The encounter with these majestic creatures is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave you in awe.

In the afternoon you will come back to your lodge to relax from the strenuous hike as you reflect on the amazing experience you just had and enjoy the scenic views of Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga mountains. You will spend your night in Volcanoes National Park.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today, you will take part in the golden monkey trekking experience. Golden monkeys are endangered primates that are native to the Virunga Mountains in Central Africa, which straddle the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The golden monkeys have a distinctive golden-orange fur coat that shimmers in the sunlight, making them a beautiful sight to behold. Visitors are required to obtain a permit from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to go golden monkey trekking. The permit costs $100 and allows visitors to spend up to one hour with the golden monkeys.

The day will begin with a tasty breakfast before driving to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and safety precautions that need to be followed while trekking in the forest. The briefing will provide important information about the behavior of golden monkeys and how to interact with them safely. The golden monkey trekking experience in Rwanda is led by experienced guides who take visitors on a trek through the dense forests of the Volcanoes National Park. The trek is shorter and easier compared to gorilla trekking, taking around 2-3 hours. You will have an opportunity to see these playful primates as they move through the forest canopy. This is a unique opportunity to witness the golden monkeys in their natural habitat, taking photos and creating unforgettable memories.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village, where you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local Rwandan traditions and culture. You will get to learn about the history of the region, watch traditional dances, and even participate in some activities yourself. This experience will provide a deeper understanding of Rwanda's rich cultural heritage.  Overnight in Volcanoes National Park.
