Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport in the morning, you will be greeted by your guide, who will briefly explain the upcoming trip. Start your adventure with a Kigali City Tour. First, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about the tragic history of the Rwandan Genocide and the resilience of its people. Next, explore the vibrant Kimironko Market, where you can see a variety of goods from fresh produce to traditional crafts. A visit to the Inema Art Center follows, where you can discover contemporary Rwandan art and meet local artists.
For lunch, enjoy a delicious Rwandan meal at a local restaurant. In the early afternoon, depart Kigali around 2:00 PM for a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Check into your lodge and enjoy dinner. Spend the night at the lodge, resting for the adventure ahead.
Start your day early with breakfast at the lodge before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers at 7:00 AM. Embark on your gorilla trekking adventure in the dense forest of Bwindi. The trek can take from a few hours to most of the day, depending on the gorilla's location. After finding the gorilla family, you will spend one hour with a gorilla family, observing their behaviors and taking photographs. You will also receive a certificate of participation for your trekking efforts.
In the late afternoon, depart Bwindi and drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a serene and scenic lake surrounded by terraced hills. The drive takes approximately 2-3 hours. Upon arrival at Lake Bunyonyi, check into your booked accommodation. Spend the evening relaxing by the lake, enjoying dinner, and reflecting on the incredible gorilla trekking experience. Overnight at the lodge, with the tranquil sounds of the lake as your backdrop.
After breakfast at the lodge, embark on a boat trip on Lake Bunyonyi. This tour includes visits to various islands, such as Punishment Island, where unmarried pregnant women were once abandoned, and Akampene Island. The boat trip offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, allowing you to spot numerous bird species while enjoying the tranquil environment. Return to the lodge in the late morning for a brief rest and an early lunch.
In the early afternoon, depart Lake Bunyonyi and drive back to Kigali. Enjoy the picturesque drive through the rolling hills of Rwanda. Arrive in Kigali in the mid-afternoon. Depending on your flight time, you may have a brief opportunity for last-minute shopping or a quick visit to a local craft market. Finally, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, concluding your unforgettable 3-day Rwanda Gorilla experience.
Packing Essentials: Bring sturdy hiking boots, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, a rain jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat. A good camera with extra batteries is also recommended.
Fitness Level: Ensure you are in good physical condition, as the gorilla trek can be demanding, involving steep and uneven terrain.
Respect Wildlife: Follow the guidelines provided during the briefing to ensure both your safety and the gorillas’ well-being. Maintain a respectful distance from the animals.
