How to travel to Uganda during Corvid19 Pandemic

Uganda’s international travel restrictions were lifted on October 1, 2020. Inbound and outbound traffic at Entebbe International Airport and all borders across the country are back to normal with restrictions to watch for Coronavirus infections.

Domestically, the government lifted the travel ban in August 2020 with strict regulations, and the locals are back to enjoying their country’s beauty. Domestic tourism has gotten a face-lift with good numbers visiting the wildlife reserves, including the primate parks. Yes, you can go gorilla trekking in both the gorilla reserves. UWA has always kept a watchful eye on the gorillas and kept strict regulations to keep them safe from human diseases even before Coronavirus.

If you are travelling to Uganda, you are required to take a COVID‑19 PCR test before departure.

Uganda COVID‑19 Travel entry requirements

There will be health screening procedures at airports and other entry ports, including wearing a facemask, sanitization, temperature screening, and physical distancing. If found with Coronavirus symptoms, you’ll be isolated and taken to a designated hospital for treatment.

Passengers must have a negative COVID‑19 PCR test done within 120 hours before arrival in Uganda, and must not display any signs and symptoms of any infectious disease before boarding.

The COVID‑19 PCR test must be taken at a laboratory approved by the country where the passenger’s journey starts.

A passenger who shows signs and symptoms of an infectious disease on arrival will be taken to an isolation Centre.

If a passenger tests positive for COVID‑19 he/she will be taken to a COVID‑19 treatment Centre, or repatriated for treatment outside Uganda at their own cost following COVID‑19 medical evacuation procedures.

Parents/legal guardians who are travelling with a child between the age of 3 and 12 need to present a negative COVID‑19 PCR test result.

Exemptions

Babies/infants 3 years and below are allowed to travel without a COVID‑19 PCR test as long as the legal guardians/parents carry a negative COVID‑19 PCR test result.

Quarantine

There is no mandatory quarantine requirement for passengers who have a valid negative COVID‑19 PCR test certificate on arrival and do not show any symptoms of COVID‑19.

Travel from Uganda

If you are travelling from Uganda, you might be required to take a COVID‑19 PCR test and present additional documentation at check‑in. Please check the requirements of your specific destination before travel.

COVID‑19 testing requirements

Passengers travelling from Uganda on Emirates must take a COVID‑19 PCR test within 96 hours of boarding at approved testing facilities. Currently, the average fee is USD 65 per test.

Parents/legal guardians who are travelling with a child between the age of 3 and 12 need to present a negative COVID‑19 PCR test result.

Exemptions

Babies/infants 3 years and below are allowed to travel without a COVID‑19 PCR test.

Passenger are advised to enter the airport terminal building 4 hours before departure of the flight.

All incoming and outgoing passengers will be subject to temperature screening.

All persons accessing the airport must wear face masks, disinfect and maintain at least 1.5 metres physical distance.
